Sometimes you need a little spice in your life. Or a lot of spice. And when that time comes, southwestern Tex-Mex style cuisine is the perfect antidote to a lack of spice. And with the temperatures as cold as they are right now in Baltimore, some southwestern style cooking is sure to warm you right up. So where do you go for a dinner that has that little extra kick you’ve been looking for. Regions Restaurant in Catonsville!

Tex-Mex cuisine as we know it today is actually a fairly recent phenomenon. The first time the word “Tex-Mex” was found in print was in 1945, and referred to the new trend of combining Mexican and Texan influences to create a new kind of cuisine. The large influx of Mexican immigrants in the 1950s saw the opening of many new Mexican restaurants. These restaurants developed “an amalgam of Northern Mexican peasant food with Texas farm and cowboy fare.” The popularity of Tex-Mex took off in the 1970s, first in the United States and then across the world, spreading to metropolitan cities in Europe, Asia, and South America. Ironically, many Tex-Mex staples are unknown in traditional Mexican cuisine. Chili, chimichangas, and nachos were all developed in America, as were fajtas.

Regardless, southwestern Tex-Mex style cuisine has proved its staying power, as Tex-Mex style restaurants are found everywhere from Texas to Maine. And if you’re right here in Catonsville, the place to go for the southwestern style kick is Regions Restaurant! Join us on a cold night for a spicy kick to your palette.
