Well Os fans, the day we’ve been waiting for is here. It’s October, and they’re playing ball in Baltimore! The Orioles are in the playoffs after winning the AL East for the first time since 1997 with an impressive 96-66 record.
Their opponent in the divisional series is the Detroit Tigers, a formidable team in their own right. The Tigers have won their division for the last four years in a row, and with a pitching staff that includes 3 Cy Young Award winners, their starting rotation is not one to be taken lightly. Their weak point however, may be their bullpen, which was one of the worst in the American League this year. The Orioles don’t have the name recognition of Detroit, but with a consistent starting rotation and a dominant bullpen recognized as one of the best in baseball, they are experts at keeping games close and shutting them down in the late innings.
If there’s one stat that doesn’t bode well, it’s the Os win-loss record against Detroit this season. In its six games against the Tigers this year, the Orioles won only one. But fresh on the heels of their division title, the birds are going into this series with a new level of confidence.
